ARCHAEOLOGYThe scheduling of the Roman settlement in Chipping Norton as an ancient monument has led to a resurgence of interest in local archaeology.The Museum has an extensive collection of archaeological finds, which incorporates the “Cashmore Collection” of over 400 artefacts found over decades of fieldwalkinf and metal detecting near the scheduled site.CHARG (Chipping Norton Archaeology Research Group) is a sub-group of the History Society that specialises in archaeology and undertakes field investigations using techniques such as, field walks, test pit digs, aerial photograph analysis, magnetometry and LiDAR. These results are consolidated and presented through our Graphical Information System.All results are made available to visitors to the museum on request during normal visiting hours or by special arrangement.
